We have a wonderful array of classes and workshops that meet the creative needs of every student.  TAS+SD offers innovative training in theatre arts where students are encouraged and empowered to explore the creative process.  Classes run from September – June.  We have six exciting camps to choose from this summer.  You will not find any camps like this in San Diego!  Register soon, as space is limited!  We also have performance opportunities throughout the year.  Currently, our students are in rehearsals for a new and innovative adaptation of THE JUNGLE BOOK.

GLOBE TROT WITH the ARTS – A SUMMER CAMP Pan-American Adventure!, Ages 7 – 11

JUNE 23 – 27, 2014 (Monday – Friday) FULL OR HALF DAY

Join Bravo School of Art and Theatre Arts School of San Diego for an exciting, fun-filled week of creativity, imagination and unique experiences as campers travel around the world through the Visual and Performing Arts!

Each morning, campers will embark on a theatrical adventure as they explore different areas of the theatre such as acting, improvisation, stagecraft, and more!  Venture to the Caribbean as we create original reggae music (with steel drums!), to the jungles of South America as we act out famous tales of the rainforest, and to Mexico where we will explore fun and funny puppet plays!

After an hour of supervised lunch and outdoor playtime in the park, head over to Bravo School of Art’s studio classroom to continue the creative globe trotting. Visit Native America, the Amazon Rainforest, Mexico, the Pacific and Caribbean Islands and more with hands-on folk art projects that may include mask making, tapa cloth, weaving, mosaic, drawing, painting and more.

One hour of outdoor / lunch time is included each day. Campers, please bring a sack lunch, water, and sunscreen.

ACT! SING! DANCE! Summer Performing Arts Camp, Ages 8-12

JUNE 30 – JULY 3, 2014 (Monday – Thursday) HALF DAY
Students will experience all three facets of musical theatre each day in this exciting camp! Each day will include a dance class (appropriate for all levels) in which campers will learn choreography inspired by Broadway’s finest choreographers. They will learn scenes and songs from some of the most beloved and hippest Broadway musicals, all while learning the foundations of musical theatre technique. On the last day of camp, students will have an opportunity to share what they have learned with friends and family.

CAMP IMPROV, Ages 8-12

JUNE 30 – JULY 3, 2014 (Monday – Thursday) HALF DAY
Students will explore the world of improv in this action packed camp! Theatre games and improv exercises based on the work of Viola Spolin will be the focus for our activities. Throughout the week, students will gain confidence, be able to think more quickly on their feet, will learn the art of listening as well as reacting, and have lots of fun! On the last day of camp, students will have an opportunity to share what they have learned with friends and family.

BROADWAY BOOT CAMP, Ages 12-16

JULY 7 – 11, 2014 (Monday – Friday) FULL DAY
Perfect for the teen who loves Broadway! Students will learn the nuts and bolts to a successful career as a Broadway actor. Each day, they will partake in the many elements of musical theatre: scene work and cold reading, choreography and dance technique, singing foundations and audition preparation. Students will learn how to refine their resume, choose appropriate music and monologues, and represent themselves as confident, exciting, and well-prepared performers. This camp will provide relevant and important training for the dedicated musical theatre performer.

One hour of outdoor / lunch time is included each day. Campers, please bring a sack lunch, water, and sunscreen.

GLOBE TROT WITH the ARTS – A SUMMER CAMP Journey through Asia!, Ages 7 – 11

July 14 – 18, 2014 (Monday – Friday) FULL OR HALF DAY

Join Bravo School of Art and Theatre Arts School of San Diego for an exciting, fun-filled week of creativity, imagination and unique experiences as campers travel around the world through the Visual and Performing Arts!

Each morning, campers will embark on a theatrical adventure as they explore different areas of the theatre such as acting, improvisation, stagecraft, and more!  Travel to the Chinese Opera with the art of Bian Lian (Face Changing Masks), to Indonesia to explore Shadow Puppetry, and to Japan as we learn how to apply Kabuki makeup!

After an hour of supervised lunch and outdoor playtime in the park, head over to Bravo School of Art’s studio classroom to continue the creative globe trotting. Visit China, Japan, Indonesia and more with hands-on folk art projects that may include printmaking, weaving, drawing, painting, making fans, masks, puppets and more.

"GLOBE TROT WITH THE ARTS!" CAMP

“HANABI” PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE CAMP, Ages 8 – 16

August 11 – 17, 2014 (Monday – Friday 9 am – 4 pm, plus weekend evenings**) FULL DAY
Inspired by the annual summer fireworks celebrations throughout Japan, “HANABI” is a multi-sensory theatrical experience which will take place at the NTC Promenade. Students will take part in each aspect of this production. Each wonder-filled day will involve students in the creative process as they write, design, build, and perform this production. All props and costumes will be illuminated with various LED lights and glowing effects. Set against the night sky of San Diego, this is an experience not to be missed! We had a great time last year developing the story of “Yin,” a young boy who was magically transported into Edo period Japan. This year, we will have a new story and new adventures!

One hour of outdoor / lunch time is included each day. Campers, please bring a sack lunch, water, and sunscreen.

MOVERS AND SHAKERS Class, Ages 1.5 – 3

Toddlers come together to experience rhythmic song and dance in a fun, musical environment.  Parents join in while children use percussive instruments, as well as their own voices and bodies, to explore music and movement.  This class is a wonderful opportunity for parents to get to know other parents!  (Students may enroll in this class at any time of the month.  If you would like to enroll after the first class day of the month, please call (619) 786-6068 to register at a prorated rate.)

“PLAY” IS THE THING Class, Ages 3-5

In this class, imaginative play is emphasized, as young students bring fantastical stories to life. Children use abstract objects as props and costumes to create wonder-filled environments and characters.

Students explore the world of theatre by flexing their “imagination muscles” through fun-filled theatre games and activities.  With theatre games, there are no winners or losers – creativity and fun take center stage!

FOUNDATIONS OF SINGING Class, Ages 7 and up

Children have a natural aptitude for singing.  This class gives them the skills to discover their musical gifts.  Students study the cornerstones of healthy singing technique:  postural alignment, breath support, ear training, and sound placement.  Many different music styles are utilized, such as musical theatre, pop, jazz, country, and world music.

ELEMENTS OF ACTING Class, Ages 10 and up

Students discover different elements of the acting process, such as “The Creative Process,” “Discovering Character, “Improvisation,” and “Scene Study.”  This class provides young student actors with important and relevant acting tools such asimagination and observation, listening skills, focus and concentration, action and reaction, script analysis, and more!

MUSICAL THEATRE STYLES Class, Ages 10 and up

Perfect for the student who loves Broadway! Each month, students discover an influential composer and lyricist in American musical theatre such as Sondheim, Schwartz, Gershwin, Porter, Lerner and Lowe, Rogers and Hammerstein, to name a few. Students will gain a better knowledge of each composer’s musical style by learning and performing repertoire.

PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE Class, Ages 8-14

In this unique class, students will create an original play.  They will take part in script creation and development, costume and prop building, blocking and choreography, and, of course, acting.  Students at TAS+SD have written four incredible one-act plays.  We would love for you to join us in FALL 2014 for our next project!

PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE

JAMBO! WORLD THEATRE Class, Ages 6 and up

Each month, students explore a world culture and art form as they step into the shoes of artists from across the globe.  In this class, students will be offered the opportunity to combine the visual arts with the performing arts.   Examples of curriculum are:  Indonesian Shadow Puppetry, African Mask Work, and Storytelling: Using Latin-American folklore in theatre.

PRIVATE ACTING AND VOCAL LESSONS, All ages

One-on-one vocal and acting lessons are available to students of all ages who are seeking in-depth training and accelerated learning in the theatre arts, as well as audition preparation.  We also provide on-camera coaching sessions for those students who are interested in film and television.  Our students have had great success achieving their personal goals.  They can be seen in professional, community, and youth theaters around San Diego as well as in t.v, film, and commercials.  Whether you are preparing for a Broadway audition or your school play, or are just trying to hone your skills, contact us at TAS+SD for your private coaching needs.

$65 per hour for acting and vocal lessons / $75 per hour for on-camera sessions
