MOVERS AND SHAKERS Class, Ages 1.5 – 3
Toddlers come together to experience rhythmic song and dance in a fun, musical environment. Parents join in while children use percussive instruments, as well as their own voices and bodies, to explore music and movement. This class is a wonderful opportunity for parents to get to know other parents! (Students may enroll in this class at any time of the month. If you would like to enroll after the first class day of the month, please call (619) 786-6068 to register at a prorated rate.)
“PLAY” IS THE THING Class, Ages 3-5
In this class, imaginative play is emphasized, as young students bring fantastical stories to life. Children use abstract objects as props and costumes to create wonder-filled environments and characters.
THEATRE EXPLORERS Class, Ages 6-9
Students explore the world of theatre by flexing their “imagination muscles” through fun-filled theatre games and activities. With theatre games, there are no winners or losers – creativity and fun take center stage!
FOUNDATIONS OF SINGING Class, Ages 7 and up
Children have a natural aptitude for singing. This class gives them the skills to discover their musical gifts. Students study the cornerstones of healthy singing technique: postural alignment, breath support, ear training, and sound placement. Many different music styles are utilized, such as musical theatre, pop, jazz, country, and world music.
ELEMENTS OF ACTING Class, Ages 10 and up
Students discover different elements of the acting process, such as “The Creative Process,” “Discovering Character, “Improvisation,” and “Scene Study.” This class provides young student actors with important and relevant acting tools such as: imagination and observation, listening skills, focus and concentration, action and reaction, script analysis, and more!
MUSICAL THEATRE STYLES Class, Ages 10 and up
Perfect for the student who loves Broadway! Each month, students discover an influential composer and lyricist in American musical theatre such as Sondheim, Schwartz, Gershwin, Porter, Lerner and Lowe, Rogers and Hammerstein, to name a few. Students will gain a better knowledge of each composer’s musical style by learning and performing repertoire.
PRODUCTION AND PERFORMANCE Class, Ages 8-14
In this unique class, students will create an original play. They will take part in script creation and development, costume and prop building, blocking and choreography, and, of course, acting. Students at TAS+SD have written four incredible one-act plays. We would love for you to join us in FALL 2014 for our next project!
JAMBO! WORLD THEATRE Class, Ages 6 and up
Each month, students explore a world culture and art form as they step into the shoes of artists from across the globe. In this class, students will be offered the opportunity to combine the visual arts with the performing arts. Examples of curriculum are: Indonesian Shadow Puppetry, African Mask Work, and Storytelling: Using Latin-American folklore in theatre.
