Today’s aspiring musical theatre performers love Broadway and Off-Broadway hits such as “Dear Evan Hansen,” “Mean Girls,” “The Lightning Thief - The Percy Jackson Musical” and “Be More Chill.” In this fun class, each student will develop a solo from one of these productions, and learn how to attain a “modern/pop/musical theatre” style. We will also choose a group number from a show of the class’ choosing. Instructor Courtney Corey from the 1st and 2nd National Broadway Tours of RENT will explain how to work on challenging material such as this, while maintaining a healthy voice. Here in San Diego, we love Dr. Seuss! Many of us parents grew up reading the stories created by Theodor Seuss Geisel's books, who spent most of his life here in San Diego. Now we read those stories to our own kids. In San Diego, one can visit a “Lorax” tree, see an annual Dr. Seuss tradition performed on stage every year, and see some of his illustrations up close! In this class at TAS+SD, we will explore the hit Broadway musical, “Seussical” and complement our theatre journey with creating our own Dr. Seuss-inspired drawings! Their work will culminate in a fun showcase at the end of the session.

EXPLORE: Watch the 2000 opening of “Seussical” on Broadway by Stephen Flaherty and Lynn Ahrens.
